PON Enterprise and Competitiveness 2014-2020

Within a project aimed at improving production and the range of services offered, Metalscatola has decided to develop a project for the implementation of an industrial digital platform to integrate processes in the production and logistics area, complete with a material and finished product traceability system, from the IN-BOUND phase to the OUT-BOUND phase, including production, supported by the latest automatic identification technologies (AIDC, RTLS, RFID).

The objective is to redesign the current system for identifying materials and finished products, primarily based on paper supports, to adapt it to new needs and prevent it from becoming a bottleneck for growth.

This platform consists of several modules to meet the needs of different business areas and address current critical issues; specifically, the main expected functions are:

  • Label management system and automated printing
  • MES: production planning and management
  • WMS: warehouse management
  • RTLS (real-time location system)

The ultimate goals of the project are both in the field of production/logistics processes (optimization of processing times for company documents, reduction of errors and consequent customer complaints, guarantee of complete traceability and real-time production control) and economic (reduction of logistic costs and inefficiencies with increased productivity). Last but not least, the project allows for a training path for all staff related to expanding their skills in document management, analysis of information flows, and the use of state-of-the-art digital tools.

The project was funded as part of the Union’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
